Welcome to the Pascack Sustainability Group

The Pascack Sustainability Group is a non-partisan group of adults and students in New Jersey's Pascack Valley who are committed to protecting the environment and living in a healthy, sustainable way.  We are a small but growing not-for-profit environmental organization founded in 2009.  Sharing a passion for the environment and a grave concern about unchecked climate change, we strive to raise community awareness and take local action on such issues as energy conservation, waste reduction, water protection, open space and wildlife protection.  That's a lot to tackle!

Here are the causes we are actively involved in:

- 4Rs - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Rethink.  -- We work actively wihin the community, schools and local government on how we can put those practices into action.

- Environmental Awareness -- Our educational initiatives have included participation in local and global environmental events such as 350.org's "10:10:10 Work Party" and Forward on Climate Rally, and National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Odyssey Day. We also hold our own special events, like Green Fest 09,  seminars and lectures on topics such as organic lawn care, composting, canning...an environmental film series...an environmental book discussion group.

- Community Gardening -- We share information to learn and practice organic gardening techniques while enjoying and sharing the fruits of our labor.

- Public Policy -- As a group we strive to increase our knowledge of environmental issues at the local, state and federal level and have urged our towns (and lent a hand)  to participate in Sustainable Jersey, a certification program for municipalities seeking to green their communities. We also encourage our local businesses, schools, PTAs and community groups to do business in a way that is mindful of future generations--by using energy wisely, conserving and protecting our resources.

Most of all, we are ordinary people who share a love and appreciation for our precious earth and desire to leave it in a better place for our children and grandchildren.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.  - Margaret Mead
